PILLS

Process intensification of liquid/liquid-reactions in fine and bulk chemistry
The objective of the PILLS project is to develop and validate a design methodology for dealing with two-phase liquid/liquid reactions leading to a new generation of flexible and high-performance process equipment (micro through to meso structured) for continuous manufacturing.
The devices developed will be applied to two different industrial systems of importance to fine and speciality chemicals and commodity to show the wide applicability to the chemical industry. Micro- and meso-scaled reactors will be developed and operated at scales relevant to commercial production to demonstrate improved selectivity, yield and specific performance.
The learning from the project will be codified in form of a "toolkit" to identify the most suitable continuous processing methods for any liquid/liquid system aiming finally also at the improvement of sustainability of chemicals production through process intensification.
Period: 01.01.2009 - 31.12.2011
