Energy Technology based on Micro Technology
The Energy Technology Department at IMM is dealing with energy systems of the future. Besides the development of single components and complete reformer systems for conventional and regenerative fuels, we also deal with the fields liquid hydrogen technology, exhaust gas treatment systems and biofuel synthesis processes.
Micro Technology in Energy Systems
Using micro technology such energy systems get more efficient and sustainable. By means of catalysts and plate heat exchanger technology it is possible to realize compact systems with a minimum loss of heat that can cover a performance range from 100 W to 100 kW and even more.
The Energy Technology Department at IMM is focussing on the following topics:
- Hydrogen technology based on micro process technology; especially: reformer technology for fuel cells, liquid hydrogen technology
- Catalyst development
- Heterogeneously catalysed gasphase reactions
- Exhaust gas cleaning
Main focus of our developments is hydrogen technology, especially reformer technology paving the way for hydrogen use in fuel cells.
Application fields for hydrogen technology are:
- Mobile applications (power engines, electric power supply)
- Hydrogen stations (medium sized stationary applications)
- Home energy supply; emergency power supply (small stationary systems)
- Portable applications (battery and generator substitute)
Plants, components and services in the field of energy technology

With a team of physicists, chemists and engineers and with the aid of state-of-the-art simulation and CAD tools complex units and complete systems as well as micro technology based components are developed for the above mentioned application fields.
Besides we attend our customers and partners during the development of fabrication technologies for serial production.
Our services in the field of energy technology additionally comprise: feasibility studies, development of customer specific systems, experimental studies as well as consulting and training.
